Honoring Our Hometown Heros

STARTED WITH

YOU

THANK YOU FOR THE YEARS OF SUPPORT!

April 15, 2025

Dear Friends:

Cessation of Operations

Thank you all for the tremendous support you have given to our deployed Montanans during the holiday

season. As you know, Adopt A Sox has recognized and thanked Montana military personnel stationed

overseas for fifteen years!

Adopt A Sox was started by a few individuals who had a deep appreciation for those who were serving

our country. There were approximately 10 volunteers in the beginning and our volunteer base has

grown to over 140 individuals. Finding success depended on so many people—volunteers, donors,

fundraising ideas, finding a facility (a huge thank you to Big Sky Western Bank and the Johnson family),

and getting donations (shelving, desks, tables, chairs, refrigerator, items for boxes, etc.). Because of the

tremendous support from the community, Adopt A Sox has always been a nonprofit where everything

donated goes to support our troops. There are no facility costs, salaries, or other expenses normally

associated with organizations or businesses.

We have had fun but it is time to cease operations. Volunteers have gotten older, contacts have retired

or transferred jobs, and it is time to move on. We will no longer accept any donations.

The entire Adopt A Sox team sincerely thanks you for the tremendous support you have given us.

Because of you, we have been able to ship thousands of 20-pound care packages filled with fun and

useful items and many reminders of home. Our boxes have been deeply appreciated by the recipients,

as evidenced by the numerous thank you letters we have received.

Thank you all.

Sincerely,

Margie Kankrlik

Executive Director

I just want to say thank you for all that you do and thanks to all the people that took the time to write and make the goodies that you sent! It’s an awesome organization and very appreciated. It is nice to be able to share all the stuff you sent with the other people in my squadron and show them how beautiful and caring Montana is. Again, thank you for all you do and know that it is appreciated!  MSgt Jeremy

Christmas Boxes for Active Military

Adopt A Sox’s (AAS) mission is to recognize and thank our deployed Montana service men and women at Christmas, to show them that their own communities think of them and appreciate their sacrifices. To do this, we invite the community to donate a wide range of specific useful items, tasty treats, and fun distractions.

In 2021 we expect to ship over 750 boxes to deployed troops, our largest shipment ever. This will be a huge challenge but, with your help, we will get this done.  We have received many nice notes from recipients who expressed their thanks to everyone involved.

Remember that this is a community effort — showing our military how much we appreciate their sacrifice. Thank you for your support!

Here is a box that arrived at its destination.

How We Got Our Name

When the organization was formed, many Montanans were serving our country and the community wanted to support them. The Adopt A Sox mission is to recognize and thank Montana military personnel stationed overseas during the Christmas holidays. The local effort to reach out and support those individuals enabled us to "adopt" a Montanan and, since the boxes are Christmas gifts, it has to include a Christmas stocking, or "sox". This resulted in Adopt A Sox!
